Sumatra
Dominated by jungles, volcanoes canyons and lakes, the island of Sumatra could be an enormous and magnificent nature park. The island can proudly boats of its Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center in the Gunung Leuser National Park which is bordered by the fast flowing Bohorok River and some delightful countryside and of course lake Toba, legendary birthplace of the mountain-dwelling Bataks and the largest inland lake in Southest Asia. The diversity of arts and cultures literally make this region a Garden of Eden for social scientists and culture seekers. It is a treasure chest of culture and tradition waiting to be explored, with ancient graves of Batak kings, unique dances and ceremonies, and beautiful arts and crafts. Sumatra is also the home the Minangkabau, one of Indonesia most interesting and influential ethnic groups.

Java
Not only the fifth largest island of Indonesia, Java is also the most densely populated of all the islands. Still you find the most beautiful landscapes on Java from thundering volcano's to thee plantations, white beaches, rice paddies to the impressive Dieng plateau. The island of Java is also home to some world famous sights such as the Borubodur and Prambanan temples. With many Indonesians living on the island means that you can find a number of cities as well. Cities such as Jakarta, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya have retained some of their colonial buildings this, mixed with the modern Indonesian live style creates friendly cities to explore. So if it's a rich culture or beautiful nature you seek Java is the island to visit. 

Bali

Bali, a tropical island in the Indonesian archipelago, is so picturesque and immaculate it could almost be a painted backdrop. It has rice paddies tripping down hillsides like giant steps, volcanoes soaring up through the clouds, dense tropical jungle, long sandy beaches, warm blue water, crashing surf and friendly people who don't just have a culture but actually live it. In Bali spirits come out to play in the moonlight, every night is a festival and even a funeral is an opportunity to have a good time.

Lombok
Lombok is noticeably different than its close neighbor, Bali. The northern part of the Island is mountainous and lush with tall trees and shrubs. The south on the other hand is arid and covered by savannas. Large Asian mammals are absent and replaced instead by marsupials, lizards, cockatoos and parrots. The difference becomes more pronounced as one moves further cast, where dry seasons are more prolonged and corn and sago are the staple food, instead of rice.

Flores
"Flores", is a Portuguese name, which means "flower", and ideally describes the beauty to be found here. This Long Island between Sumbawa and Timor is crowded with volcanoes and mountains, dividing it into several regions with distinct languages and traditions. Predominantly Catholic and heavily influenced by the Portuguese, there are many examples of a strong European cultural heritage, like the easter procession held in Larantuka, and the Royal regalia of the former king in Maumere.

Sumba
Formerly known as the Sandal Wood Island, Sumba is now famous for its horses and a superb style of ikat cloth. Spirits, both ancestral and natural, are worshipped. West sumba is famous its enormous megalithic tombs and traditional thatched and peaked huts raised on stilts. Incredible rituals are a way of life here, such as the "Pasola", where hundred of horsemen fling spears at each other in an annual tradition.

Sulawesi
Situated at the crossroads of strategic sea lanes steeped in history, the province of South Sulawesi consists of the narrow southwestern peninsula of this mountainous, orchid-shaped island. The capital and chief trading port, Ujung Pandang, is still the gateway to eastern Indonesia.

West Papua
Papua is a land of contrasts, with some of the impenetrable jungles in the world and snowcapped mountain peaks towering over glacial lakes. Papua is Indonesia's largest and easternmost province and covers the western half of the world's second largest island. It is a land of exceptional natural grandeur, with beautiful scenic beaches, immense stretches of marshlands, cool grassy meadows and powerful rivers carving gorges through dense primeval forests. The most heavily populated and cultivated parts of the island are the Paniai Lakes district and Baliem valley to the east.
